To mark the 25th anniversary of the Windsor Half Marathon, a special awards presentation with HRH the Duke of Edinburgh was held at the Undercroft of Windsor Castle.
Winners of the Building Industry Championships were recognised for their impressive finishing times. The strong team of runners from Arup once again won majority of the cups – the Building Industry Male, Building Industry Female, 1st Building Male and CRASH Challenge Cup. The final award, 1st Building Female, went to Price & Myers.
The half marathon was held on September 24th in the beautiful grounds of Windsor Great Park. Voted one of the best races and the second most scenic course in Britain, the event was once again sold out with all 6,000 standard places and 380 Golden Bond places taken up as early as March.
Said the Race Director, Peter Hier:
"The crowds this year were by far the largest ever seen at Windsor. At the top of the Long Walk it was a little like a mountain stage in the Tour De France with the spectators seeking any vantage point possible! This has now become one of the truly classic events in the British road running calendar and as always we will continue to improve the quality of the race."
In access of £68,000 was raised for the two official charities – the industry charity, CRASH and the Prince Philip Trust. The funds helped boost the Hard Hat Appeal – CRASH’s 15th anniversary fundraising appeal. Commenting on the support was CRASH Director, Tom Biddlecombe:
"The support by the industry has been fantastic with ACO Technologies, Arup, Faber Maunsell, Land Securities, Meica, Montgomery and Travis Perkins signing up as Silver Sponsors and a long list of industry runners running the race. A special thank you to all CRASH Golden Bond runners and individuals who went the extra mile to raise sponsorship for our charity.
Congratulations to all the winners at today's awards ceremony who rightly deserve this recognition for their impressive finish times at this year's race. And we look forward to welcoming all runners back next year."
