Foyer - Bruce House is a 49 bed Foyer providing accommodation and learning support for homeless young people. It is a 5 storey listed building on Drury Lane in Westminster and there are 19 rooms with single occupancy and 15 shared flats. Despite being so large there is no communal space so it is not possible for them to interact with other residents which can lead to isolation and depression. They would like to make better use of the existing large reception area to incorporate a communal room and relocate the reception desk. This would involve the construction of a stud wall to create a self contained community room with doors and windows and the installation of electrics and IT/internet cables and complete redecoration and furnishing of room. CRASH have approached a designer to help with the scheme.Naomi Cleaver has carried out the initial design work and funds from CRASH - The Story of Christmas will be used to assist with the alterations to the ground floor entrance.

Training Centre - Acorn House comprises a 16 bed centre for homeless alcoholics and substance misuse. The ground floor was an empty shell which required a complete refit to make it useable. Project converted the area to provide a training and education centre to include woodwork, initially for the current residents and then to extend it to their other 13 hostels in the area. CRASH supporter produced a scheme drawing and building regulations which were approved. CRASH helped source materials. Glen Dimplex offered assistance with heating equipment, as did Carvall Group and Cox Building Products. It looks like works should be complete by 18th August and aim for the Hanbury Project Team to start using the centre as of the 1st September. Carpenters Benches sourced by CRASH from Central London Joinery Company are absolutely fantastic and will aid the Education and Training Centre, benches were also paid for by CRASH and delivered by JFM at a charitable price. Hanson has supplied discounted ready mix concrete and Knauf has supplied plasterboards.
