British Gypsum Launches £100k in 100 Days Challenge

Leading plasterboard and drylining manufacturer, British Gypsum, has launched a charity challenge to raise a staggering £100,000 in just 100 days. The ‘100k in 100 day’ campaign was devised by the company’s managing director, Mike Chaldecott, after an anonymous sponsor challenged him to raise £80,000 and has promised to top up the fundraising total to £100,000 if the target is reached.

The challenge will see employees from British Gypsum, part of the Saint-Gobain group, take part in activities and events to help raise the money, which will be split evenly between the construction industry’s charity for homeless people, CRASH, and Macmillan Cancer Support.

As front man of the campaign, Mike Chaldecott has already committed to running the Windsor Half Marathon followed just one week later by a 20km race in Paris. Mike said: “We’re all really excited to kick off the ‘100k in 100 day’ challenge. When the mystery sponsor contacted me with the offer of topping up £80,000 to £100,000, it was too good to turn down.

“The charities that will benefit from the event are both of particular importance to me. CRASH, of which I am a patron and trustee, supports the building of hostels, homes, and training and rehabilitation facilities to help homeless people back into mainstream society and back into work. It does this by using the products and skills from our industry, so we can give something back to society as a collective through our trade.

“Macmillan Cancer Support does a marvellous job caring for people who are living with cancer, whilst giving support to their families. They were a great help to my father during his last few weeks before dying of prostate cancer, and I know that many other families have benefitted from their help and support in the same way.

“This is quite a daunting challenge but also a very special opportunity to support two fantastic charities and I’m sure there will be plenty of fun along the way. Although £80,000 is not an easy target, it is achievable with the support of friends, family, colleagues and partners. I’m sure the generous promise of a £20,000 boost will spur us all on too.”
