JSP, Leading PPE provider gift CRASH Christmas mascot with its very own hard hat
Your favourite festive mascot is back. Thanks to JSP, Europe’s market leaders in industrial head protection, the CRASH Robin has a new and improved safer look.
This Christmas, the CRASH Robin has set itself a mission to help raise awareness of CRASH and our vital work with homelessness charities and hospices. Flying alongside the CRASH team, visiting projects and collecting donations at industry awards, the Robin will be doing everything in its power to raise awareness of CRASH’s work, but before that, the Robin had to source some suitable PPE to wear on-site…
That’s where JSP came in. In true Christmas spirit, the team expertly designed and engineered a Robin-sized safety helmet for the CRASH Robin. The story is so exciting that we have included the Robin’s first-hand account below!
Hello, I am the CRASH Robin, and I recently got my very-own safety helmet so I can join the CRASH team visiting construction projects. Here’s how…
To begin, I researched into industrial head protection, and found JSP, a company who specialise in ‘Above the Neck’ PPE. I immediately knew they were the ones for the job. So, I flew over to JSP’s Manufacturing Headquarters in Oxfordshire, England.
I visited Ayan Dhorajiwala, Lead Design Engineer working in JSP’s busy Research and Development department. Ayan told me I would be getting my very own EVO®5 industrial safety helmet! It was incredible how quickly they could create my new helmet due to this innovative technology.
They measured my head to see what size helmet I would need; due to my small stature this would need to be a special order – so, they scaled down the existing EVO®5 CAD model in size to fit my head perfectly.
Ayan then got to work on preparing the model for 3D printing and I helped by overseeing the work and choosing the colour. It was amazing – I saw my helmet come to life right before my eyes in JSP’s resin poly-jet 3D printer.
The 3D helmet is created in layers that are formed when a moving print head precisely jets liquid photopolymers onto a build tray which is then cured under a flash of UV light. The helmet is then trimmed and polished.
After polishing, the helmet was washed in the wash station to make sure I’m looking my best!
Then finally, it was time for quality assurance. So, I headed over to the testing department where the team demonstrated how the real JSP safety helmets are tested to BSI® standards to ensure they meet strict levels of quality. (Warning! – The safety helmet produced on JSP’s 3D printer was tested for demonstration purposes only and cannot be used as a real safety helmet onsite.)
Once tested, it was time to showcase my new safety helmet around the JSP office. I thanked the team and flew back to Chiswick to reunite with the CRASH team.
“When I first approached JSP, to help with this ‘unusual’ request I certainly did not expect such an amazing response. Thank you to the team for such a creative, exciting and insightful process. It has been great to collaborate with you and understand more about the possibilities of 3D printing. This is a truly wonderful example of the unique ways a company can support their industry charity, CRASH.”
