Team effort transforms London day centre for people who are homeless
CRASH Project Progress: MoCoCo House, Middlewich
MoCoCo House is a semi-independent living service that provides accommodation and support for residents aged 16 to 24.
The need
MoCoCo House reached out to CRASH for help in converting former coffee shop and youth club it into eight self-contained bedsits for young homeless adults as well as a warden flat and retail unit for the homelessness charity.
The solution
CRASH called upon their patron companies to get to work on the conversion.
How patrons helped
CRASH Patron companies, Bauder, British Gypsum, Dulux Trade, Galliford Try, Knauf, KOREC and Siniat have joined forces to get the project underway. Bauder, Dulux Trade, Galliford Try, and Siniat have all given pro bono professional expertise in addition to materials, British Gypsum and Knauf have donated materials and CRASH has awarded the project a cash grant of £10,000 towards roof repairs to ensure that the building is water tight.
In addition to the housing provision, CRASH will help the Charity develop the retail unit to incorporate a first point of contact for anyone in the community who requires practical / financial assistance in times of need.
The final detail has yet to be worked out but it may include some sort of retail space to generate income, showcase projects and a FoodBank.
The social impact
“This is another example of how our Patron companies pull together to create a building that will make a real difference to homeless men and women.”
CRASH Projects and Resources Manager
“Our heart has always been that this facility should continue to be used for the benefit of the young people of Middlewich. For many years we have helped a small number of young people as they transition into adult life by supporting their housing needs. Out of this desire to help vulnerable young adults we are now in a position to launch a new project that will make a real difference.”
