Beale & Co climbs the highest peak in South Wales to raise funds for CRASH
Construction industry law firm Beale & Co have been a Corporate Patron of CRASH since 2018, during which time they have donated professional expertise, volunteered, and raised funds to support our life-changing projects; constructing places that care for people at their most vulnerable.
On July 15th, 22 brave members of the Beale & Co team took on the Brecon Beacons challenge, celebrating their 185th birthday and raising funds for chosen charities including CRASH. In typical British summer style, the weather proved challenging but the team stayed positive, scaling the 886m Pen y Fan (the highest point in South Wales) against the wind and rain! Luckily, the team could keep their heads warm and dry with insulated beanies, donated by patron company Hanson.
There may not have been a panoramic view of the Beacons from the peak, but the expedition was well rewarded by the generosity of friends, family and colleagues – raising an incredible £1,299 towards CRASH’s work, delivering vital construction projects for homelessness charities and hospices.
“We chose the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) charity challenge as there are a number of different hiking routes which meant that we could make the challenge open to as many people as possible from our London, Bristol and Dublin offices.
The hike that we chose involved a steep walk to reach the summit of Pen Y Fan (at an altitude of 886m) so we had to step up our fitness levels in the months leading to the challenge. On the day itself, the last third of the ascent became very challenging due to the weather – thank goodness for the hats and waterproofs that we had brought but didn’t think we would ever need in July! Reaching the summit, we had a quick picture taken but didn’t hang around too long.
Once the hike was complete, the team enjoyed a well-deserved dinner outing. The challenge was a great way for colleagues to spend time together away from their laptops and raise money for a fantastic charity. We are already thinking about our next charity challenge for CRASH … for when we have recovered from this one!”
