Construction industry tackles The BIG March in aid of CRASH’s work with homelessness charities and hospices

Making vital steps forward for people who are homeless and those receiving hospice care, incredible individuals within the industry took part in the 310,000-step challenge in March – raising funds for CRASH.

Corporate Patrons and supporters of CRASH from across the industry took on the unpredictable March weather, clocking up steps on early morning dog walks, scenic strolls by the beach and journeys through the city. Raising over £3,000 to support vital work, creating places that care for people who are homeless and children and adults in hospice care.

Those who took part in The BIG March went above and beyond to reach and even exceed their goal – with some even taking on half or ultra marathons that clocked up an immense amount of steps!

The CRASH team took on the challenge too, with an office leader board sparking some friendly competition. Taking top spot was Hannah Miller, Communications and events Manager with an incredible total of 402,935 steps!

CRASH is so grateful to the wonderful supporters who took on the challenge, marched miles and raised an incredible amount, facing snow rain or shine in aid of vital construction projects for homelessness charities and hospices.

Here’s what our marchers had to say about their experience…

“The Big March for CRASH has been a fantastic event for our HR, Occupational Health and Facilities (HOF) team. In recent months we have focussed our attention on our physical and mental health and this event has got us out and about in the Spring weather, snow, rain or shine, at a wonderful time of year when the natural world around is beginning to grow again. Doing this has galvanised our team with a collective challenge working towards a common goal and in support an excellent cause. We recommend this as an opportunity for anyone seeking to do something that benefits themselves and others.”

“It’s been rewarding taking part in The Big March to help support CRASH. Walking 10,000 steps everyday helped give me an excuse to get outside, move my body, try new activities and explore my local community. It’s more than just steps; it’s a journey towards making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.”

“I set myself a personal challenge of doing 20,000 steps every day, it was great to see this challenged by Kevin which brought out my competitive side and increased my daily average to 33k! It helped having a half marathon planned within the month and I also managed to walk an Ultra Marathon as part of the challenge to increase the average steps per day. I have come away from the challenge with some great new habits, shed some weight for the wedding in October and had a great time with the team. It also encouraged engagement with colleagues we wouldn’t normally crossover with.”

“I found The BIG March a great opportunity to increase my activity level, create new healthy habits and to interact with colleagues. Within the month I ran a half marathon, played multiple netball matches and went on weekend walks with my family.”

Nicky Langford

Finance Manager at ACO Technologies

“It’s really amazing to see so many people from the industry taking on this challenge, and so great to hear about the different ways people have been clocking up their steps! I loved the friendly competition we had with the team, it motivated me to get out more and make the most of the lighter evenings! Thank you to all who stepped with us to construct places that care for people.”
