Construction teams make a splash for CRASH at dragon boat challenge
On Thursday 18th May, 40 teams from across the construction industry came together for an afternoon of dragon boat racing in aid of CRASH. Every team who signed up to take part in the event, organised by NewWave Event and partnered with Building Magazine, included a donation to CRASH with their entry.
After kicking off with a safety briefing, teams made their way to their boats to go head-to-head in the opening heats. Reigning champions from last year, Parkeray returned to defend their title alongside Blenheim House Construction who have taken part in this event for over 20 years!
CRASH Corporate Patrons also joined in and Reds10 were crowned ‘Highest Placed Platinum Crew’ in 5th place. The Reds10 team also deserve a special mention for their branded jerseys, sized up to fit over the life jackets.
After surviving the heats and final rounds AECOM lifted the trophy with a time of 51.74 seconds! Parkeray were named Best Dressed Team thanks to their Mary Poppins inspired outfits and Graham Construction were the well-deserved winners of Top Fundraisers.
Henigan Consulting Group’s ‘Catch of the Day’ team, deserve a special mention from finishing as the Highest Placed Mixed Crew.
Together, from entry donations, fundraising and the raffle, teams raised an incredible £17,280 in aid of CRASH to help people who are homeless, and children and adults receiving hospice care.
Between races, teams could enjoy magic from the roaming magician Carl Royle and an inflatable ‘Last One Standing’ activity which gave a taste of what to expect at the Inflatable 5K – a series of events promoted by CRASH as the perfect summer team building activity.
There was also a raffle with fantastic prizes generously donated by Corporate Patrons and companies. Thank you to prize sponsors 8build, Beale & Co, Dulux Decorator Centre, Galliford Try, Imtech, Knauf, Knauf Insulation, NG Bailey, Sipsmith and The Arch Climbing Wall.
