CRASH Newsletter: November 2023
A defibrillator is a device that delivers a high-energy electric shock to the heart of someone who is in cardiac arrest and CRASH is delighted to announce that it has installed one at its office in Chiswick, West London.
It was a true team effort driven by Communications and Fundraising Assistant, Hannah Miller. The defibrillator was funded by CRASH supporter Star Platforms whilst Corporate Patron, Imtech, volunteered to install the device at no cost.
You do not need to be trained to use a defibrillator as the clever device guides you through each step. However, British Gypsum have offered to send the CRASH team on a refresher first aid course.
Defibrillators can save lives and it is important that they are accessible. Danish professional footballer, Christian Erikson, who suffered a cardiac arrest on pitch during the UEFA EURO 2020, shows just how a cardiac arrest can affect anyone – even an athlete at the top of their game.
This potentially lifesaving machine sits at the heart of a mixed-use complex and is accessible to the CRASH team, as well as an accountancy firm, 108 flats and porters who work at the development.
The AED POWERHEART G5 (defibrillator installed at CRASH) has a battery life of four years and is now registered with The Circuit, a national defibrillator network, meaning it can be located by the ambulance service if a person nearby goes into cardiac arrest. Thanks to The Circuit this machine has the potential to help thousands of people if it were ever needed. A defibrillator can save lives, but a registered defibrillator can save more.
“Imtech drew on the assistance of our Inviron FM division to help install the defibrillator at the CRASH offices – it was a wonderful thing to be able to do for the Chiswick community, that’s not too far from our office in Staines.”
Business Development Manager and CRASH Trustee, Imtech
“We have been a supporter of CRASH for some time now, so we were delighted to offer our assistance by funding a defibrillator to provide reassurance for the local community. Star Platforms recently installed these devices at all depot and office locations, so we understand the importance of having this equipment accessible to save lives.”
Managing Director at Star Platforms
“Having accessible defibrillators is a cause close to my heart. I sincerely hope that this machine is never used but if a time comes where it’s needed, it will be there and could potentially save a person’s life. A huge thank you to Star Platforms for donating the machine and Imtech for the installation – it is comforting to look out the CRASH office window and see that bright yellow box.”

There are a variety of unique ways that companies within the construction industry can support CRASH and this initiative is a great example of delivering lasting social impact to the communities in which we work and live.
Thank you to CRASH Corporate Patron, Imtech, and CRASH supporter Star Platforms for making this defibrillator accessible to the CRASH team and the local community in Chiswick.
