July rain puts Emmaus Hertfordshire’s new roof to the test as local mayor visits the recent CRASH project

Recently completed CRASH project, Emmaus Hertfordshire’s new roof was the focus of discussion as local St Albans Mayor and councillors visited the homelessness charity.

Anthony Rowlands, Mayor of St Albans was joined by other local councillors; Robert Donald, Roly Everall, Keith Cotton, Jamie Day, Graeme Shaw and Jacqui Taylor for a guided tour around the charity’s 36-bedroom accommodation building.

Duncan Lewis, Chief Executive, Gemma Beckett, Business Development Manager and Richard Belt, Trustee of Emmaus Hertfordshire gave an overview of the Emmaus story before a tour around the building, with a quick pitstop to check out the new roof. Visitors also got the opportunity to catch up with companions (the term Emmaus uses for their residents) over lunch.

CRASH’s Niamh McCann and Hannah Miller also attended the visit alongside CWG Group who completed the building works on site at a discounted rate. CRASH Corporate Patron and Flat Roof specialist, Bauder donated the new roof products free of charge whilst Extreme Scaffolding offered a discounted rate on the scaffolding required for roof access.

The old roof was at the end of its economic life and beginning to exhibit major defects, including leaks into Companions’ bedrooms. Read the full case study here. Now, the staff and companions at Emmaus Hertfordshire can relax during periods of heavy rainfall, knowing there is no risk of leaks.

“On a typically wet British summer’s day it’s a huge relief to know that our new roofing means the rain will stay outside and our companion’s rooms will stay dry. It was great to mark the completion of the work with a visit from the Mayor and so many of his fellow councillors and for us to have a final chance to show our huge appreciation to CRASH, Bauder, CWG Group and Extreme Scaffolding for all their generosity and professionalism.”

“As a Hertfordshire resident myself there is something special about helping your local homelessness charity and hearing about all the wonderful things they do for your own local community. It was great to see the difference CRASH, Corporate Patron, Bauder and Supporters CWG Group and Extreme Scaffolding have made to this homelessness charity.”
