CRASH Newsletter: November 2023
he team at St Michael’s Hospice has expressed their thanks to CRASH for its support and advice throughout the rebuild of the Hospice.
CRASH awarded St Michael’s Hospice a cash grant of £30,000. CRASH Trustee Steve Hodkinson and Patrons Dulux Trade, Arcadis and Cundall have added significant value to this grant by sharing their professional expertise.
Patrons Hilti (GB) Ltd, British Gypsum and ACO Technologies have shown their support by offering vital technical advice and donating materials.
Working with the Clinical Services Team, Dulux Trade’s Senior Colour Designer Lisa Pilley created three complementary bedroom schemes for the In-Patient Unit to give rooms their own identity.
The scattered nature and mix of rooms creates a homely environment and feature a collection of colours which reflect warmth and comfort. The scheme was designed to complement the previously pre-selected finishes including patient chair and floor coverings.
“The environment around us often supports how we feel, therefore getting the Hospice environment right is paramount when the patients and people the Hospice support are either ill or on an emotional journey,

When the Dulux team created the colour schemes for the treatment, counselling, family and nurses rooms this was taken into account, and as a result a beautiful, calming scheme has been created.
For the corridors and breakout areas a colour story has been created to offer combinations which works with the equality act while not comprising the effect and functional design.
St Michael’s Hospice is an independent 28 Bed hospice which has been providing care for adults with life-limiting illnesses since 1987.
As well as providing specialist end of life care to in-patients, the Hospice also runs a range of services, so that they can help people with day services and at home supporting patients and their families and friends. They offer 24/7 care, 365 days a year.
The Hospice suffered extensive damage as the result of an arson attack in July last year. The fire not only had a devastating effect on the building, but also on the staff and patients working and staying there at the time.
Since the fire, St Michael’s Hospice has been operating a reduced service from Hastings Court Care Home at great expense to the charity while they not only repair the considerable damage caused by the fire but also improve the former convent for the future.
This is the first hospice project that CRASH is helping and we have been overwhelmed by the generous support offered by our Patron and supporting companies.
“Helping St Michael’s to get back on their feet so they can continue to offer their vital services to people in the community is a real privilege and I am truly grateful to all the individuals and companies from our industry who are helping CRASH to deliver the important help that is needed.”
