New roof for homelessness charity means they can focus on what they do best
Based in Leicester just a short walk away from the city centre, The Open Hands Trust exists to make a powerful and lasting difference in the lives of those it serves, where every life is valued and compassion is given to and through people.
CRASH has been working with The Open Hands Trust to help improve and extend their day centre.
In May 2009, the Trust opened a Compassion Centre in a converted garage, which has welcomed thousands of guests to sessions, meals and courses. In March 2012 all of the charity’s work was brought to one site, by extending into adjoining garage units however these were not ideal for the services they provide.
CRASH provided the charity with a donation of £25,000 to support the project as well as reaching out to patrons for additional support.
Thanks to professional expertise from CRASH Patrons EC Harris LLP and materials donated by Knauf Drywall and Knauf Insulation along with discounted carpet from Heckmondwicke, The Open Hands Trust was able to renovate the garages to provide new fit for use space.
At regular weekly sessions those visiting with referrals are now able to access clothes, furniture, household items and baby equipment. A free cafe serving hot toast, drinks and snacks is open to all.
We are thrilled that CRASH was able to help us create this centre which we see a need for more and more.
