A new lease of life for an old barracks supporting homeless people and the wider community.
CRASH Patrons Bring Colour to the Lives of Young Homeless
CRASH Patrons have teamed up to use their professional expertise and quality materials to bring colour to the lives of some of London’s most vulnerable young people.
The need
Centrepoint’s Farnborough House in South East London was in desperate need of a makeover.
Farnborough House is an 11 bedroom short stay (three months) assessment centre for young homeless people. Following the much needed refurbishment, which included new flooring from Altro, the residents are now able to benefit from Centrepoint’s Lifewise programme which will enable them to start earning their own money through the centre’s support. There is also a space for a Specialist Learning Worker to provide tailored information, advice and guidance to access and engage in further education and vocational training.
The solution
CRASH called on patrons to help provide the assessment centre with the makeover it needed.
How patrons helped
Dulux Trade and Taylor Wimpey got together to support the project. Centrepoint also benefited from Dulux Trade’s generosity at their Berwick Street site when the company joined CRASH supporter K&M McLoughlin Decorating who provided an apprentice to redecorate the reception area on the ground floor of the building.
CRASH had previously helped Centrepoint convert the entire premise, which had an awkward narrow and long layout, into a self-catering facility, with shared lounge and learning room.
The social impact
“As a leading UK homebuilder, we are committed to tackling homelessness issues. Our staff are dedicated to supporting Centrepoint and our network of homelessness charities across the UK and are delighted to be able to provide more practical assistance like our construction expertise and materials wherever possible, in addition to financial support.”
Charity Committee Chairman at Taylor Wimpey
“It’s great to be able to work together with CRASH and fellow Patron companies to add a bit of colour to these facilities that extend a helping hand to young homeless people.”
