Team effort transforms London day centre for people who are homeless
Emmaus Brings Style to Hinkley High Street
Insufficient sales area meant that Emmaus Leicester needed to expand their social enterprise. Their search for new premises took them to Castle Street however it was in dire need of refurbishment.
The need
The ground floor retail and first floor sorting and storage space needed a coat of paint, over 100 tiles were missing from the suspended ceiling, there was no insulation and one wall was showing signs of rising damp.
The condition of the building did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of Community Leader Christine Dallas who called on CRASH for help.
The solution
CRASH had previously helped Emmaus Leicester with their Emporium and had seen first-hand the fantastic impact the charity had made not only to lives of previously homeless men and women but also to the wider community in Hinkley.
Within four weeks of the initial project visit, CRASH was able to provide:
- Plasterboard
- Plaster
- Carpet
- Vinyl Flooring
- Paint
- Suspended ceiling
- Heating system with professional heating assessment
The social impact
Called ‘La Boutique’ the new shop enjoyed its grand opening in time for Christmas and makes a very welcome addition to Hinkley’s High Street.
“Generating this new income stream will help secure Emmaus Hinckley as a permanent local resource to help combat homelessness in Leicestershire, we would like to CRASH and their supporters for all their help. It is thanks to them that the only tradesman we had to hire throughout this refurbishment project was an electrician.”
Community Leader at Emmaus Leicester
“This project is a great example of what can be achieved with clear vision matched by the generosity of our Patron companies and supporters. The fact that the turnaround was done in such a short time is testament to this.”
