Children’s Hospice can now help more children and their families
Safe garden access for patients at St Peter & St James Hospice
St Peter & St James Hospice is a charity that supports people with a range of life-limiting illnesses, as well as their families and carers in the heart of Sussex. The hospice building houses a 23-bed palliative care inpatient unit, a Wellbeing Centre and family & carer services. It also provides a base for the community nursing team, clinical admin team, and administrative and fundraising staff.
The need
Once St Peter & St James Hospice applied to CRASH for assistance, CRASH visited the charity with Corporate Patrons Arcadis and Maylim, who undertook a health and safety audit of the terraces and access paths around the hospice and gardens.
The CRASH solution
Following our report, plans were drawn up to develop areas of the hospice grounds to make them more accessible for patients.
How CRASH Corporate Patrons helped
CRASH called upon Corporate Patrons Hanson, A-Plant, VolkerFitzpatrick and Buildbase, along with Marshalls who responded by generously donating the plant and construction products to create a safer and more user-friendly paved area around the Hospice building.
- The value of gift in kind support, professional expertise and construction products, from CRASH Corporate Patrons and supporters came to £25,523.
- CRASH decided to increase the cash grant from £20,000 to £32,500 bringing the total value of CRASH’s support to the hospice to £58,023.
The social impact
“CRASH has provided a significant grant which enabled us to implement a number of essential works across the hospice that will guarantee the safety and wellbeing of our patients and other stakeholders. The health and safety audit was an extensive and invaluable piece of work for the hospice. The advice was instrumental in saving the hospice thousands of pounds, highlighting potential areas of concern.”
